Understanding The Concepts of Website Link Building

Website link building is increasingly important to anybody working online.

It is a series of techniques used to help any website rank well in the search engine results. A few years back, most SEO experts were not worrying about links, as they were concentrating on optimizing the actual websites and getting good results from on page optimization. However, the competition has made their jobs much more complex. Most well ranked websites nowadays are extremely well optimized and so link building has become a huge differentiating factor. If two websites are well put together, with relevant content and meta tags in place, then the search engine will look at what links they have coming in to determine which one should rank at # 1 and which would rank at # 2 or even lower.

How can website link building be accomplished?

Now that your website is ready and fully optimized it is time to work on website link building. There really is no point in starting this work unless pages on your site are prepared. But now that you have constructed the foundation it is finally time to build the house.

  • Online Directories Register your website: you need to submit your website’s URL to all of the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.) to ensure that your website is crawled by the bots and your pages get listed as a result. You could rely on the search engines to find your website themselves, but submitting it manually helps to speed up the whole process.
  • Niche directories You should find websites which list sites similar to yours. If  for example, you sell shoes, then search Google or Bing for “shoes online directories” and make sure to submit your web address to all of those which the search engine identifies. They will not all give you equally ranked links, but they all count and are fairly easy to grab.
  • Business directories Do not forget about the general business directories. Many online directories are very broad and are happy to list a business of pretty much any nature. Look for “free business directories” online and register your domain with as many as you can.
  • Paid for listings Some online directories only offer “paid for” registration, while others are free.  Unless you are in a very competitive niche or market or have a lot of spare cash, you should not pay for such listings. Whatever these services tell you, the value of a paid link is rarely higher than a free one. At this point, save your money.

Content to Help Your website link building

A blog: an alternative to link building is link baiting. In this scenario you create content which people will hopefully find so interesting that they will begin linking to it from their websites and social networks. The best way to do that is to use a publishing platform in the form of a blog. Create it as a page on your current website. Continue to add quality content and update your blog as often as you can. Ideally, adding a new blog article each week will have a strong impact on the overall results that your web page will see in terms of new backlinks. However, you will still see effective results even if you post to your blog page less often. Quality and relevant content are more important than the number of time you post to your blog.

Syndicate content:  to help encourage more people to share your pages with the rest of the world you will need to create content they love and find interesting, funny, informative etc. As ever, remember to use your keywords in text, especially titles, because your chosen keywords are what will in the end help you secure the backlinks you are looking to gather, to help your page rank higher in all the search engines. The methods listed above will allow you to accumulate organic targeted traffic that is ready to buy, and will create customers. Website link building not only brings traffic to your site directly but will also enable you to rank well in the major search engines.
